Position Focus

  • You will be responsible for the oversight of surgical services including an 8-suite OR, PACU, pre-op, central sterile, and a diagnostic treatment center
  • Strong staff support with good physician relations
  • Work closely with administration on quality and SCIP initiatives

Organization

  • The Department of Surgery is both an academic and clinical department. The scope of service includes general, vascular, thoracic, general and advanced laparoscopic, oncological, and neurosurgery. The department is an integral part of the recently designated Level II trauma center servicing Kern County and southern Tulare County.
  • Kern Medical Center is a 222-bed acute care teaching hospital. The medical center serves a community of approximately 650,000, and the hospital is owned and operated by Kern County.
  • As an academic teaching hospital, Kern Medical Center trains 113 residents/fellows per year and is affiliated with UCLA and UCI Schools of Medicine, giving nearly 1,000 visiting doctors, researchers and other professionals the opportunity to assist the 65 full-time faculty physicians and take an active role in the teaching process.
  • Kern Medical Center provides care for over 16,000 patients annually, while the clinics provide care and services for over 100,000 patients; the emergency room experiences 43,000 visits per year

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
  • Previous management leadership a must
