Chief Operating Officer
Reporting to newly named President and CEO, Dr. Joe Mitchell, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be part of the Executive Management Team, along with the CMO, CNO, CFO, and CHRO. The COO will provide leadership, management, and vision to drive continuous improvement in quality of care, customer service, and operating efficiency to ensure the organization’s financial viability. The COO will work closely with the CMO and CNO in developing new services and programs to ensure that patient needs are being met and to achieve the hospital’s mission. The COO will ensure operational efficiencies through benchmarking and quantitative monitoring of operational performance.
The new COO will bring a proven track record of successful operations management within a hospital setting. This executive must have demonstrated his/her ability to effectively manage both clinical and non-clinical operations of a hospital. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced healthcare operations leader to impact the future of the hospital and delivery of care to a highly specialized patient population. The COO will work closely with the CEO in establishing strategic direction and priorities for the hospital; he/she will be responsible for creating and directing short-term and long-term plans to achieve the organization’s goals.
Franciscan Children’s, located in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, is a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization that provides medical services, behavioral health, and educational services to children and adolescents with complex medical, mental health, and educational needs. It is the only pediatric post-acute care facility in New England and the Hospital has pioneered clinical, therapeutic, and educational programs for children with a variety of complex medical, mental health, and educational needs. The Hospital strives to be the model institution where children receive specialized care delivered comprehensively and continuously by dedicated staff, and through a commitment to family support, evidenced-based care, quality, and research.
Franciscan Children’s has 112 beds, 80 of which are licensed as non-acute care hospital beds, and 32 mental health beds by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. There are also 18 Community Based Acute Treatment (CBAT) beds. In addition, Franciscan’s continuum of care includes educational services delivered through the Kennedy Day School.
- Clinical degree, e.g., RN, DNP, NP, MD, and/or master’s in healthcare administration, MBA, or other discipline related to the duties of the position.
- Minimum of 10 years of healthcare experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including five years of executive leadership within a hospital.
- Prior engagement in both clinical and non-clinical operations and program development.
- Proven experience in innovative care delivery redesign using such concepts as Lean methodologies.
