The Opportunity:
Signature Healthcare (SHC), an independent, nonprofit, community-based health system, seeks an accomplished and visionary fundraising leader to serve as Vice President of Philanthropy and Development (Vice President, Development). The current Vice President, Development, Jeff Miller, CFRE, will retire in January 2025 after nearly 15 years of service. SHC is one of the only community-based integrated healthcare systems in Southeastern Massachusetts providing a full range of high-quality primary care, specialty care, hospital care, and related ancillary services on a coordinated basis delivered at a low cost. This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented, community-focused development professional to join a dynamic, high performing senior leadership team to impact the future of an exceptional community health system and the people it serves.
The Position:
Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer, Robert Haffey, the Vice President, Development will provide strategic oversight and direction for Signature Healthcare’s philanthropy and development activity and will be responsible for maintaining and evolving a comprehensive development program to maximize philanthropic support for Signature Healthcare. As the lead fundraising strategist, the Vice President, Development serves as expert counsel to the President & CEO and the Development Advisory Board on fundraising matters and board development. The Vice President, Development is charged with maximizing philanthropic support for the hospital’s programmatic and capital needs through major gifts/pipeline building, capital campaigns, grant writing, and donor/community relations. Working closely with clinical and administrative leadership and staff, and Board members and volunteers, the Vice President, Development identifies and initiates potential opportunities for funding – locally, regionally, and nationally – and uses best practices to ensure long-term, sustainable relationships with the hospital’s donor community.
The Ideal Candidate:
• Bachelor’s required; Master’s and CFRE preferred.
• An accomplished fundraising leader with a minimum of five or more years’ documented success leading a high performing fundraising program as a fundraising executive in a healthcare, academic or human services organization.
• Proven track record in major gifts, planned giving, capital campaigns, and corporate relations, including the ability to effectively research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors capable of six- and seven-figure gifts, with previous success in securing six-figure gifts.
• Successful grant writing experience preferred.
• Previous experience working with a Development Committee or a Foundation Board is ideal. This includes board member recruitment, communications and relationship management with Committee/Foundation Board members, and the ability to articulate the purposes and the outcomes of the Committee to major prospects and existing donors.
• Previous successful leadership involvement with multi-million-dollar capital campaigns.

Brockton, Massachusetts, is located in Plymouth County, approximately 20 miles south of Boston, 40 miles northeast of Providence, 40 miles west of Cape Cod, and 200 miles northeast of New York City. With a population of approximately 100,000, the city of Brockton is the hub of a densely populated region, which features a diverse array of cities and towns, ranging from urban, to suburban, to rural in nature. The region is often referred to as the “Metro South” region of Massachusetts.
