Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park) is seeking a dynamic, skilled, and experienced executive to serve as its Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Operations Officer (CCOO). Roswell Park is a Public Benefit Corporation formed by New York State in 1999 that operates a $1 billion nationally ranked NCI- Comprehensive Cancer Center located in Buffalo, NY. The CCOO will report to the Executive Vice President of Operations and Transformation and will be primarily responsible for the clinical operations of the cancer center.  

The CCOO is a senior level executive responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of patient-centered inpatient, ambulatory, and surgical care as well as all ancillary patient care services and operations across all Roswell Park locations. The CCOO partners closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to ensure alignment and compliance with patient care delivery standards, patient safety and quality policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, patient experience goals, and clinical trial compliance requirements. The CCOO also works closely and in complete partnership with the CNO, CMO, the Senior Vice President of Strategy Business, and Network Development, the Senior Executive Director of Ambulatory Services, and key physician leaders to ensure efficient patient flow, high patient satisfaction and experience, and physician and staff satisfaction to allow for volume growth. The CCOO also participates in the strategic planning of the organization’s objectives and is responsible for developing and implementing short-term and long-term organizational and department goals to drive clinical growth, patient safety, and patient satisfaction/experience.


With an operating budget in excess of $1 billion, Roswell Park is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Upstate New York, consistently ranks among the NCI’s top recipients of research funding and has been consistently recognized by US News & World Report – Best Hospitals for Cancer. Over the last decade, Roswell Park has undergone significant growth, adding over 1,500 new jobs, initiating one of the nation’s first hospital facilities dedicated to Phase I cancer research studies, and setting itself apart as a leader in surgical robotics, vitamin D research, immunotherapy and vaccine therapy, personalized medicine, studies targeting tumor microenvironment and cancer prevention, and the development and testing of new agents and technology. Committing the infrastructure, intellectual capital and necessary resources to convert its scientific discoveries into products and applications to help cancer patients, Roswell Park has established several biotech spin-off companies and formed strategic partnerships with investigators and centers throughout the world. 

The Roswell Park clinical engine includes 142 dedicated cancer inpatient beds, over 278,000 outpatient visits annually, full surgical, diagnostic and treatment services and an oncology network that includes 15 locations across New York. The main campus spans 29 acres in downtown Buffalo and consists of 15 buildings housing a large surgical, inpatient, and outpatient operation operated by an employed faculty of nationally known oncology physicians, cutting edge research facilities as well as academic facilities for its accomplished education mission. In addition, the organization built a new medical research complex and renovated existing education and research space to support its future growth and expansion. The latest addition to the campus is the new 150,000 square foot Clinical Sciences Center, opened in 2019. Construction of a new 35,000 sf cancer ambulatory/diagnostic center recently broke ground this December.


The ideal candidate will have significant clinical operations experience within a complex health system with the ability to lead diverse teams and motivate others to achieve common goals. Candidates should possess outstanding communication and relationship building skills. Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of clinical operations experience, including at least 4 years of senior-level management experience in healthcare. Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • Master’s Degree in Hospital or Business Administration or a related healthcare field
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of full-time operations experience in a clinical or clinical support department in a healthcare setting, including a minimum of 4 years in a senior supervisory, managerial, or executive capacity in healthcare (hospital, health system, or medical center)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and provide necessary management; data and clinical operations skills to evaluate services and provide oversight to subordinates in managing their respective departments
  • A conceptual basis of strategic planning and knowledge of healthcare management and economics 
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the development and implementation of strategic and fiscal analysis of new and existing opportunities, relationships, networks, and satellites and the monitoring of fiscal performance of collaborative and business agreements
  • While not required, knowledge of clinical oncology is preferred.
