The Opportunity
Sparrow Health System, member of The University of Michigan Health, based in Lansing Michigan, has partnered with AMN Executive Search to recruit an inaugural Medical Director of Precision Oncology and Genomics. The Medical Director will be based at the Sparrow Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, a leading-edge facility constructed in July 2017. This is an exceptional building opportunity for an ambitious physician scientist.

At this flagship oncology center, patients can access top-of-the-line biomedical technology, renowned cancer experts, and pioneering clinical trials. 

A $5-million donation, the largest in Sparrow’s history, has been made to establish an endowment for the advancement of genomics and precision medicine. The donation to the Sparrow Foundation is earmarked to create The Genomics Endowment for Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer and provides for a new Director of Precision Oncology and Genomics at Sparrow to oversee and grow the program. With the establishment of this program, the Medical Director will begin a path for collaboration with the Rogel Cancer Center at University of Michigan. 

The Position

The Medical Director, Precision Oncology and Genomics provides physician oversight of cancer genomic research and precision oncology services within the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center. The Medical Director promotes the concepts of genomics and precision oncology throughout the health system, region, and nation by educating patients and colleagues, publishing articles, and collaborating with national genomics leaders to increase the visibility of the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center. He or she will participate in medical oncology patient care, run the genomics clinic and taking referrals from internal and external referral sources. The Medical Director will develop and implement strategic plans, ensuring programs align with hospital and health system quality, growth and financial objectives. 

The Medical Director will report to Gordan Srkalovic, MD, Ph.D., Medical Director of Sparrow Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, and Chairman of Sparrow Health System’s Cancer Committee. Dr. Srkalovic is also the Director of the Clinical Trials Office and a Physician at Sparrow Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, practicing hematology and oncology.
