The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and dynamic academic leader to directly shape the long-term vision and growth of a new department with a proud and distinguished culture of providing high-quality, patient centered care. The Chair will have the chance to lead, mentor and create an inclusive environment for the Department to make a significant impact on central Pennsylvania, the emerging Penn State Health System and beyond. Additionally, the Penn State Cancer Institute is seeking NCI designation and the Department of Radiation Oncology will be an integral piece of a successful submission and earning this prestigious accreditation.

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • The Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology must be a compelling and innovative leader, able to attract high-caliber faculty and research funding while promoting diversity and inclusion in all areas.
  • The new Chair must be able to collaboratively lead an efficient and effective radiation oncology program with the highest standards of clinical outcomes in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • This physician leader must be a strategic thinker with the entrepreneurial spirit needed to shape the vision of the department and its impact on the marketplace.
  • ACGME accredited residency training in Radiation Oncology and Board-certification are required, along with an MD or equivalent or MD/PhD from an accredited institution.

 

The Organization

The Department of Radiation Oncology was elevated from the status as a division to its own Department in 2018. The further development of this Department will be a key success driver for the future of PSCOM and Penn State Health. The Department is well-equipped and enjoys the benefit of access to cutting-edge technology and collaborations between the College of Medicine, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Health, The Penn State Cancer Institute and Penn State University, integrating the latest biomedical knowledge and technology with compassionate care of patients.

Penn State Health is a multi-hospital regional health system in a strategic partnership with Highmark Health, working to improve access, quality, and affordability of care. The centerpiece of the health system is PSH-Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, a 619-bed, quaternary care, academic medical center and 4th designated Magnet Hospital, with all major services represented in both pediatric and adult medicine.

 

The Region

Hershey, PA is a thriving town in one of the fastest growing regions of the state, with the nearby towns of Harrisburg, Lancaster and Lebanon rounding out an attractive variety of cultural and recreational options. The community is served by the Harrisburg International Airport and is located less than three hours away from major metropolitan areas including Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh, and New York City.
