The Opportunity:

Children’s of Mississippi and the University of Mississippi Medical Center seek an exemplary leader to serve as Chief of Pediatric Rheumatology. The new Division Chief serves a critical leadership role in growing, developing, and maintaining programs within the Division. 


The Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will be a visionary and strategic leader. The candidate will have a proven record as a problem solver and have an ability to implement innovative solutions to contemporary challenges. The new Chief will have demonstrated leadership in clinical care, development of research, and/or administration and strong clinical expertise within the field of Pediatric Rheumatology. 


Education/Experience:

  • MD or MD/PhD with a track record of professional leadership roles in the field of Pediatric Rheumatology. 
  • Board Certification and fellowship training in Pediatric Rheumatology. 
  • Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Mississippi. 
  • Strong management skills, including the ability to manage and mentor physicians, build organizational capability, and collaborate effectively with peers. 
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting and maintaining faculty and staff. 
  • Excellent understanding of finances and budgets. 
  • Highly collaborative and decisive with a high degree of flexibility and creativity. 
  • Proven philanthropic success and experience working with donors. 

 

The Organization:

Children’s of Mississippi, part of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, encompasses all the pediatric services available at UMMC and at clinical sites throughout Mississippi. At the heart of these services is the state’s only hospital devoted exclusively to the care and treatment of sick and injured children. The Children’s of Mississippi network brings specialized clinical care for children to communities across the state, making it easier for families to get the treatment they need closer to home. 


Children’s of Mississippi has over 150 pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists in more than 30 medical specialties to determine the best treatment for each child. Children’s Mississippi is comprised of the following: 

  • 99 medical/surgical beds 
  • 12 psychiatric beds 
  • 32 PICU beds 
  • 122 NICU beds 


Children’s Mississippi also has robust educational programs including a pediatric residency program with 55 residents and 28 fellows in seven pediatric fellowships in cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, hematology/oncology, neonatal perinatal, neurology, and rheumatology. The Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship has received continued accreditation effective September 11, 2023. This is the inaugural fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology, and there is an expectation that the program will continue to grow.
