The Opportunity

Lawrence General Hospital (LGH) is seeking a CFO to guide and direct the financial operations and financial strategy for the organization. The CFO will function as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer and to the executive leadership team. The CFO will establish strong relationships throughout Lawrence General in order to promote teamwork, partnering with his/her executive team colleagues to develop business strategy and drive related initiatives. The CFO will lead the finance function to provide proactive guidance, consultation and support to the operations team in the attainment of their business objectives and financial performance commitments. The CFO plays an active role with the Board of Trustees. In addition to staffing the Board Finance Committee and Investment Committee, the CFO interacts with the Board at large and directly with most other committees. 

This key senior leader is responsible for the financial stewardship and direction for LGH and its entities through effective business leadership, strategy development, internal controls, operating and capital budget development, revenue cycle, strategic financial planning, monitoring and management.

Lawrence General requires a CFO who is strategic in perspective, yet has a firm handle on finance operations, who understands the business of healthcare services delivery, and who desires a strong operational role in the business. This CFO will provide the vision and leadership for all financial planning and activities supporting business strategy. The CFO will be responsible for monitoring and managing the financial performance of the organization and its operations through metrics and benchmarks. He/she will lead Lawrence General in the realization of improved and responsive strategic planning, business analysis, and controls in order to provide actionable solutions to the demands of today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Our ideal candidate will specifically possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (accounting/finance). A master’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field, and/or a CPA is desirable.
  • Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible financial management experience within a complex health care setting. Knowledge of medical group operations and finance, as well as hospital finance, is preferred.
  • Experience within a community hospital setting and prior experience implementing and sustaining financial performance initiatives is preferred.
  • Prior experience preparing and making presentations to a governing Board and related committees is required.
  • Well-versed in all aspects of healthcare finance, including reimbursement, billing procedures, managed care, payer contracting, and compliance.

Lawrence General Hospital is located in Lawrence Massachusetts, a city of 80,000 people in northeastern Massachusetts. Lawrence is approximately 25 miles north of Boston and offers commuter rail services daily. Lawrence is located approximately 28 miles southeast of Manchester, the largest city in New Hampshire. The overall community population serviced by LGH totals approximately 300,000.
