Inaugural Director, BRCA Center
Serving as the “face” of the Center in professional forums, the Director of the BRCA Center reports to the Director of Cedars-Sinai Cancer, Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD, and will oversee all academic, research, clinical, operational, fundraising, and business development activities of the BRCA Center in partnership with academic, hospital and medical network leadership. An important initiative for the Director is creating an integrated, collaborative “team science” culture that will enhance all clinical and research activities.
Ranked by US News & World Report as the #9 Best Hospital in Cancer Nationally in 2021-2022, the Cedars-Sinai Cancer program sees more than 5200 new cases of cancer per year and is part of the Cedars-Sinai health system, a rapidly expanding vertically integrated health system with practices located in Southern California.
Cedars-Sinai Cancer has innumerable providers across the Cedars-Sinai health system who are knowledgeable and experienced in the management of patients with BRCA mutations. The BRCA Center’s clinical objectives are twofold: 1) aligning all clinical services throughout the Cedars-Sinai health system in greater Los Angeles within Cedars-Sinai Cancer so that patients with BRCA mutations receive optimal personalized care; and 2) offering patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that provide them access to promising novel therapies and potentially helping others with similar cancers. This approach demonstrates Cedars-Sinai Cancer’s commitment to translating discoveries from research conducted from laboratory bench to a patient’s bedside. The aspiration is for research to enable Cedars-Sinai to understand which patient’s genetic signatures are associated with sufficient risk to warrant intervention and which cancers respond to which agents. This is exemplified best across all cancer types in the recently unveiled Molecular Twin Precision Cancer Initiative which can be leveraged by all cancer researchers including those working on BRCA.
Los Angeles, California, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, mountains and deserts, is known for its Mediterranean climate, ethnic and cultural diversity, Hollywood entertainment industry, and its vibrant metropolitan area.
