President and Chief Operating Officer
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Care New England Health System, the President/COO ensures that the hospital provides quality services that are financially sound, is compliant with regulatory legislation, and meets the needs of patients, their families, physicians, the public, and the staff. Additionally, the President/COO has the responsibility to ensure the integration of Kent Hospital operations across Care New England Health System (CNE) and implementing the system-wide strategic plan.
Furthermore, the President/COO is responsible for ensuring Kent Hospital’s clinical affiliation with Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) continues to thrive. Kent Hospital has a strong clinical affiliation with BWH and the two organizations collaborate in a number of clinical areas, including cardiovascular services, pulmonary, and subspecialty services in vascular, colorectal, and thoracic surgery. Through this partnership, Kent Hospital patients can receive care in Warwick, RI and at various locations throughout the state from specialists who are considered among the best in the nation.

The new executive will serve as the external voice and face of Kent Hospital, the “chief advocate” and be capable of telling the story to raise its visibility and awareness among all key influencers, public and private stakeholders.
The President and Chief Operating Officer will manage a staff of approximately 1860 employees.
Our ideal candidate will specifically possess:
- An undergraduate degree is required.
- Master’s degree is required (MBA, MHA, or equivalent).
- Clinical degree is a plus.
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible, successful leadership experience in health care management and operations.
- Experience in a multi-hospital healthcare system, and appreciation for the strengths and challenges that brings to a local organization is essential.
- Leadership experience within a community teaching hospital is required.
- The successful candidate will currently be a President/Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, SVP/VP of Operations or hold another senior executive-level position in a multi-hospital health system environment with a regional and/or national reputation for excellence. Regardless of current and prior positions held, the successful candidate must possess outstanding and hands-on operational and financial management skills/experience.
- Prior experience in a union environment is a plus.
Kent Hospital is a 359-bed, non-profit, acute care, community teaching hospital in Warwick, RI. Governed by the 17-member voluntary Care New England Board of Directors, the Hospital serves approximately 300,000 residents of central Rhode Island.
Kent provides a full complement of inpatient and outpatient services, including a number of key specialty services which make it a more complex and robust healthcare provider than a typical community hospital. For example, through the clinical affiliation between Care New England’s Cardiovascular Care program and Brigham and Women’s Cardiovascular Associates, CNE provides its patients with access to a team of cardiologists considered among the best in the region. A number of the Brigham and Women’s cardiologists in the Cardiovascular Care program are based at Kent Hospital and provide a broad spectrum of cardiac services. Kent Hospital also offers a broad range of surgical specialties. The Hospital's operating suites and outpatient surgical suites are staffed by a skilled surgical, anesthesiology and nursing team which is supported by the latest technology and advanced diagnostics. Care New England's minimally invasive and robotic surgery program serves patients at Kent Hospital, offering an array of traditional surgery and advanced technology.
Intensive medical-surgical services are provided in Kent Hospital’s 15-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU is under the direction of an intensivist, a physician who is board certified in the specialized care of critically ill patients and is staffed by a multidisciplinary health care team. The Hospital also operates an Ambulatory Surgery Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center, Women's Imaging Center, Breast Health Center, Wound Recovery Center, and the Center for Surgical Weight Loss. The Ambulatory Surgery Center combines an exceptional outpatient experience with specially designed space, state-of-the-art equipment, and close access to the full-service hospital. The Breast Health Center at Kent Hospital is a unique collaboration between Kent and Women & Infants Hospital.
Kent Hospital is the second largest hospital in Rhode Island and has more than 1,800 employees, a medical staff of more than 600 providers (physicians and allied health professionals). The Hospital supports more than 12,000 discharges and approximately 500 births annually. Kent Hospital's Emergency Department is the second busiest in the state with more than 50,000 annual visits.
