New Health Affairs Attorney opportunity with University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas

The Position
  • The Health Affairs Attorney – Associate provides legal advice and analysis regarding business transactions and health care regulatory matters to support the institution
  • Works closely with the Chief Counsel or designee, management, employees at all levels as well as outside legal counsel
  • Drafts, negotiates and amends a variety of Academic and Medical Industry Contracts in the context of a large Academic Medical Center, including high specialized contracts for medical affiliation, indigent care, Health IT, Data Sharing, Practice Organization (including formation, requirements, restrictive covenants and payment innovation and regulation)
  • Provides expertise in Federal and State Healthcare Regulations affecting a variety of subjects related to healthcare including fraud and abuse, privacy, facility licensing and maintenance, anti-trust, patients' rights
  • Advises on the regulation of the Practice of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Health Professions including licensing, reporting requirements, impaired professionals, delegation of authority, credentialing and peer review, confidentiality, legal issues related to birth and death, mental health services, drug law, prevention, control and report of diseases and conditions, and the training of students, residents and fellows
  • Provides Risk Management and Medical Malpractice Defense Experience, including litigation management and Texas Medical Board processes, and regulatory and compliance issues and investigations including CMS, OIG and OCR investigations. University Regulations in the form of Regents' Rules and Operating Policies and Procedures and UTHSA HOP; health-related policy consultation and review
  • Previous healthcare industry or Hospital Law experience preferred, including hospital operations, regulatory and compliance matters
  • Juris Doctorate and license to practice in the state of Texas required
