Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and visionary clinician executive to lead and develop all activities related to the Pediatric Physicians’ Organization at Children’s (PPOC), clinically integrated with one of the premier children’s medical facilities in the world, Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). 


Position: 

  • Develop, lead and direct all activities related to the PPOC with the support of and in partnership with the senior management team to ensure achievement of PPOC’s mission and strategy.
  • Provide visionary leadership to PPOC members and member practices to allow them to continue to advance their care of patients and families.
  • Collaborate with partners and leadership at Boston Children’s Hospital regarding joint strategic initiatives and uphold the mission, vision and values of BCH.
  • Promote an organizational culture – supportive, collaborative, innovative and respectful of the diversity PPOC’s members and those they serve – which inspires member practices and PPOC staff to realize the PPOC mission.
  • Managing the growth of the PPOC both by local growth of existing PPOC practices and by the addition of new practices to the network when appropriate.
  • Act as the external voice for PPOC and pediatric patients through advocacy within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including MassHealth/Medicaid ACO (capitation model).
  • Reports to the Board Chair and PPOC Board of Directors.
  • Lead a senior management team consisting of the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Information Officer, with responsibility for overseeing, evaluating, mentoring and hiring.

Organization: 

  • Established in 1999, the PPOC is one of the largest pediatric primary care physician organizations in the country, with more than 429 pediatric primary care physicians, 219 nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and 98 integrated behavioral health clinicians.
  • PPOC members are all members of the Boston Children's medical staff and practice in more than 105 locations across Massachusetts. PPOC providers care for more than 425,000 children and adolescents and based upon the US Census Data from July 2022, the PPOC cares for an approximately 30% of the children in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • The PPOC is clinically integrated with Boston Children’s Hospital and its specialists and contracts jointly with those organizations. It hosts and manages the Epic EHR for member offices.  
  • PPOC providers and staff collaborate in ground-breaking research with their colleagues at Boston Children’s Hospital. With such a diverse and growing membership, the PPOC is proud of its patient-centered medical home which supports high quality care for the children it serves. 

Qualifications: 

  • Board-certified clinician with at least 10 years of leadership experience; primary care pediatrics background is strongly preferred but other primary-care field or pediatric subspecialty will also be considered. A master’s degree in healthcare management, business administration, or related field is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in an independent private pediatric setting, as well as experience working as a leader in a large hospital or academic health system.
  • The CEO position is 100% administrative; however, a candidate may be able to have an applicable clinical practice up to 10%. If clinical practice is desired, then eligibility to be licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in an independent private pediatrics practice setting, as well as experience working as a leader in a large hospital or academic health system.
  • Knowledge of current trends in models of care, care coordination and or integration and reimbursement, and experience in the primary care/practice setting.
  • Management skills commensurate with a history of leadership roles/responsibilities and an understanding of behavioral and organizational change methodology.
