Forrest Health Selects Transformational Nursing Leader as VP of Clinical Operations

October 30, 2019

Dr. Phyllis Chambers hired to lead Clinical Operations as Vice President at Forrest General Hospital.

In seeking the ideal executive to join Forrest Health in its pursuit of establishing medical excellence in south Mississippi, the organization has selected Phyllis Chambers, DNP, as Vice President of Clinical Operations at Forrest General Hospital.

Forrest Health retained B.E. Smith for the search, seeking a leader who could easily fit into the culture and establish trust. Troy Daniels, Vice President of Human Resources at Forrest Health, was impressed with all the candidates presented, but clicked immediately with Dr. Chambers

“She came across as energetic and brought a desire to make a difference,” Daniels said. “Phyllis is an ideas person and brings a different perspective to the table. It felt as if she were one of us when we first met with her.

Dr. Chambers, who started with Forrest Health in September 2019, pursued a nursing career at a young age and has since climbed through the ranks of leadership, achieving targets and improving patient outcomes along the way.

“I am truly fortunate to be a part of such a large healthcare system that serves more than 19 counties in southern Mississippi, which is already providing high-quality care,” Dr. Chambers said. “I was attracted to this role after being informed on the advancement of medical technology and processes, in which my skill set could expound."

A transformational leader, Dr. Chambers empowers nurses to see the bigger picture. She is committed to taking care of patients and providing consistent reminders of why the nurses and their work matters. This aligns with Forrest Health’s approach to care, especially given her roots in Mississippi.

“Phyllis already had some connectivity to other organizations in the state and the issues that we face,” Daniels said. “But she also brought insight on how other organizations dealt with those issues, which made her unique.”

Forrest General Hospital is a 545-bed level II regional trauma center as well as a 400-bed general medical/surgical facility. It is the flagship hospital of Forrest Health, an organization dedicated to providing better access to quality healthcare in south Mississippi.
