B.E. SMITH’S PROMPT INTERIM LEADER PLACEMENT HELPS MONTEFIORE NYACK HOSPITAL IN SEVEN-DAY LEAPFROG DOCUMENTATION TURNAROUND

Nyack-Case-Study-4-2019-1In an effort to ensure the successful submission of 2017 Leapfrog data and establish transitional leadership in its Quality department, Montefiore Nyack Hospital had just a few days to find its ideal interim leader. The team at Nyack, led by Anthony Matejicka, DO, MPH, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Nyack, reached out to B.E. Smith, whose readiness to find the right candidates through its extensive pipeline proved to be a significant factor in fulfilling Nyack’s need.

“We needed an immediate and high-caliber professional, and therefore thought of B.E. Smith,” Dr. Matejicka said.

Nyack, a 375-bed community hospital located in Rockland County, NY, and part of the Montefiore Health System, hoped B.E. Smith could find a calm, thoughtful leader in a quick turnaround to fill its Director of Quality vacancy ahead of a June 29 Leapfrog deadline. After speaking with a B.E. Smith Talent Coordinator at noon on June 22, the organization set up an interview with candidate Nancy Campbell at 3 p.m. On Monday, June 25, Nancy began her engagement with Nyack.

ENHANCING CLINICAL, FINANCIAL, AND OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE

It had been four years since Nancy worked with Leapfrog, so she spent the weekend and travel time refreshing herself on the requirements. Once on site, she could take immediate steps to gather the needed materials.

“When I arrived, I met with the quality team right off the bat,” Nancy said. “They had done most of the work that was required for Leapfrog, we just had to pull the supporting documentation together and talk to the right people.”

After spending time with the leaders of Pharmacy, Barcode Administration, and CPOE, among others, Nancy’s efforts that week helped the hospital successfully receive a B+ from Leapfrog. Nancy spent the next seven months leading the Nyack team until it could find a permanent leader. Among her achievements:

Nancy credits her accomplishments to the dedicated staff she had around her.

“Nyack has a wonderful team,” she said. “They have a lot of great leaders doing a lot of great things, so it was easy to find success.”

    VALUED PARTNERSHIPS

B.E. Smith values its partnerships with both healthcare organizations and its candidates. Nancy’s accomplishments in the first week and subsequent months were just some examples of how an interim leader can make immediate and lasting impact on an organization. Mary Shinick, Vice President Human Resources at Nyack, understands that need.

“As a quality-driven organization, Montefiore Nyack Hospital requires high-level experts to assure its objectives are completed and met with the highest of standards,” she said. “At times, we require interim support and B.E. Smith has never failed to deliver the type of quality and knowledgeable professionals that we have come to expect.”

B.E. Smith is dedicated to helping clients like Nyack find their next leader and interims like Nancy find their next assignment, ultimately helping patient care across the nation.
