The Opportunity

The Texas A&M University School of Medicine has partnered with AMN Healthcare to recruit a new Department Head of Medical Physiology. Reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine, The Department Head (DH) of Medical Physiology (MPHY) serves as a member of the senior leadership team of the school and works collaboratively with the central administration, fellow department heads, center, institute directors, and faculty members to support and advance the strategic goals of the University, School, and Department. The Department will be committed to developing the Department as a leading research unit of the School of Medicine, with a focus on extramural grant funding and academic excellence in support of the research and educational missions of the institution.  


The Position

The Department Head of Medical Physiology will have administrative, financial, and operational accountabilities in the department. The successful candidate will have a record of commitment to a culture of institutional stewardship, transparency ,and efficient and effective business operations. As a key leader at the Texas A&M University School of Medicine, the new Head will build on the successes of prior leadership, leveraging the talents of a diverse faculty, staff, and students to chart continued success and increase the national and international reputation of the Department’s research and educational endeavors.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a vibrant, extramurally funded research program and should have an international reputation and track record of success in physiology. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academics, including medical, graduate, post-graduate education, and the mentoring of trainees and junior faculty. The Department Head will be expected to provide leadership for the MPHY Department, promoting the development of innovative research programs aligning with the research mission of the School of Medicine, the Health Science Center, and Texas A&M University (https://medicine.tamu.edu/research/focus- areas/index.html). 


Qualifications 

  • PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree  
  • A record of scholarship commensurate with appointment as a tenured Professor of the School of Medicine
  • Successful candidates should have prior experience in medical physiology, as well as demonstrated qualities/competencies to commensurate leading a department
