The Opportunity
University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is seeking a new Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. The successful candidate must be a clinically active member of the Department and manage administrative responsibilities and well as shepherd the Department’s teaching, scholarship, and clinical missions to new heights.
The Organization
The University at Buffalo is a member of the State University of New York system. As of Fall 2020 the University enrolled 32,000 students in 13 schools and colleges. The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has affiliations with every major hospital in Buffalo for its educational and research objectives. Hospitals include Buffalo General Medical Center, John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, DeGraff Memorial Hospital, Erie County Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Western New York Healthcare System, Sisters of Charity Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Department of Anesthesiology is ranked in the Top 50 nationally based on NIH funding. It achieves high standards of education, research, and patient care, through the dedication of many including multiple Vice Chairs, Program Directors and Nurses all with the shared goal of continuing to elevate the department of Anesthesiology.
The Position
In the role of Chair of Anesthesiology, she/he will work in collaboration with other Chairs, the chief medical officers and operational leaders for each affiliated hospital to meet goals for strategic growth and focus on high quality, best outcomes, and value-based care. She/he will be responsible for the academic activities of all physicians within the Anesthesiology department, in conjunction with relevant Chairs and Division Heads across UB/Jacobs SMBS.
The next Chair of Anesthesiology must be a respected, innovative and entrepreneurial leader and talented clinician whose passion for the educational, clinical, and research missions energizes the faculty, staff, and learners, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence.
