The Opportunity

The Chief, Neurosurgery & Co-Director, Brain Institute will serve in a critical leadership role growing, developing, and maintaining programs within the division of Neurosurgery and the Brain Institute. The next chief must be an exceptionally talented surgeon and a compelling, innovative leader whose passion for the education and clinical missions energizes the faculty, staff, and learners, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence across all mission areas. The new chief exhibits leadership skills that will foster collaboration, planning, communication, and benchmarking of results in their approach to problem solving and program building.


The Ideal Candidate

The next chief must be a talented pediatric neurosurgeon with a proven track record as a problem solver and implementer of innovative solutions to contemporary challenges. In addition, the new Chief will have demonstrated leadership in clinical care, administration, and have strong clinical expertise.

  • MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent
  • Certification by the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery (ABPNS) is required
  • Must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted Florida medical license.


The Organization 

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Brain Institute is the nation’s first comprehensive medical program dedicated solely to the care of the developing brain. The program has been ranked among the nation’s top-tier programs for pediatric neurology and neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report. The Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Nicklaus Children’s is also affiliated with the University of Miami Health System. Mentoring of early career faculty, recruitment, and career development of new faculty are essential components of the position. The chief must be a competent and prudent steward of the division, guiding it through what will almost certainly be uncharted territories of change in the healthcare and social environment.


Nicklaus Children's Hospital is an ANCC Magnet facility and South Florida's only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children, with nearly 800 attending physicians and more than 390 pediatric specialists in approximately 40 different pediatric subspecialties. Nicklaus Children’s is an independent, private, nonprofit children’s hospital with 309-beds, renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine, with many programs routinely ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report since 2008. The hospital is also home to the largest pediatric teaching program in the southeastern U.S. and the network includes more than a dozen outpatient centers located the region.
