Summary

The Opportunity:

Fairview Hospital and Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) are seeking an accomplished, results-oriented healthcare executive to serve as System Vice President (SVP) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Fairview Hospital, a 25 bed, $86M in net revenue in FY 23, critical access hospital that provides acute and outpatient services to the residents of Great Barrington and surrounding areas. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a healthy, vibrant and high-quality hospital through its ongoing integration into BHS. 

Reporting to the CEO and President of Berkshire Health Systems, the COO of Fairview Hospital will provide the leadership, strategic guidance and management direction necessary to fulfill the organization’s mission. The COO is responsible for planning, organizing, leading and managing Fairview Hospital operations in order to support the achievement of Berkshire Health System’s mission, strategies and operating plans, and to collaborate with BHS to represent Fairview Hospital and BHS to the local community to support positive community relations, philanthropy and government relations.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in hospital leadership including experience as the executive responsible for the operation of a hospital, or a service line in a health system that includes significant hospital operations required. 
• The successful candidate will currently be a President, Chief Operating Officer, SVP/VP of Operations, or hold another senior executive-level position in a healthcare provider organization with reputation for excellence.  
• Leadership experience in a multi-hospital healthcare system, and appreciation for the strengths and challenges that brings to a local organization is preferred.
• Rural healthcare is preferred.
• Leader must possess outstanding and hands-on operational leadership skills/experience.
• Leadership experience within a community hospital environment is required; leadership experience in a critical access hospital preferred.
• A master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration or a related field is required. FACHE is preferred.  

The Organization:

Fairview Hospital is a not-for-profit, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital offering inpatient medical services, general surgery, orthopedics and maternity services with 24-hour emergency and hospitalist coverage as well as a full range of ambulatory surgical services. Fairview Hospital was established in 1912 and has been providing high-quality, compassionate, essential healthcare services to the South Berkshire community for over a century. With approximately 370 employees, Fairview Hospital is a major employer in its service area and benefits from a loyal, dedicated, long-tenured and family-oriented workforce/culture. Fairview Hospital joined Berkshire Health Systems in Pittsfield in 1986 and collaborates with BHS to provide residents and visitors with access to healthcare services. Fairview Hospital’s exceptional service to the South Berkshire community has been repeatedly recognized as a top 20 Critical Access Hospital. 

The Region:

Great Barrington, once named Smithsonian Magazine’s Best Small town in America, is about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from both Boston and New York. With a population of just over 7,000 residents, Great Barrington is in the center of Southern Berkshire County, with a Main Street full of life and lined with shops, theaters, and restaurants. Tourism is a big draw for the community, but still boasts open spaces, vistas, and natural beauty that makes this community perfect for vacations and second-home owners alike. Outdoor Activates in Great Barrington are in no short supply. One notable example is Ski Butter Nut, a family operated Ski Resort with 22 trails, 10 ski lifts and two terrain parks. You can also find about 22 hiking trails and swimming holes throughout the surrounding area. While there are many attractions in Great Barrington, living in the community is an equally pleasant experience as well. The Berkshire Hills Regional School District, based in nearby Stockbridge, is well regarded and there are several private schools within a reasonable distance.
