The Department of Medicine
The Chair will lead the Department comprised of 87 Faculty and 60 Residents across 11 Divisions including Cardiovascular Medicine, Dermatology, Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism, Gastroenterology, General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Pulmonary/Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, and Rheumatology/Allergy Immunology. There is a long-standing tradition of significant independent research funding on the part of chairs in the Department of Medicine.
Academic Affiliation
In 2015, the COMLS formed an Academic Affiliation with ProMedica, the Toledo region’s largest health system and now one of the largest health systems in the nation with 1800 beds in 11 hospitals across Ohio and southeast Michigan. The Affiliation is a 50-year agreement and represents a $2.5 billion investment in developing a legacy model of healthcare and medical education in Toledo.
The Position
Reporting directly to Christopher J. Cooper, MD, Dean of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, Executive Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Vice Provost for Educational Health Affairs of the COMLS, the Chair of the Department of Medicine is responsible for providing a vision and strategic direction for the department. The new Chair must be a collaborative and compelling leader who will leverage system-wide capabilities and department strengths to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in the education, research, and clinical service missions of the college and university. The new leader will have a highly collaborative relationship with the service chief at Promedica to ensure excellent coordinated quality clinical services and excellent trainee experiences.
Qualifications
- MD or MD/PhD, or equivalent, and board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and/or own specialty
- Board certified in own specialty and/or the American Board of Internal Medicine
- Eligible for an Ohio medical license.
