The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (COMLS) is seeking a compelling new leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Pediatrics.

Reporting to the Dean, the new Chair will be responsible for providing a vision and strategic direction for the department. This new leader will oversee the academic missions, striving to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in the education, research, and clinical service missions with highest level of professional commitment, enthusiasm, and integrity for the university, college, and department.
The Organization
The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (COMLS) is a student-centered, world-class educational institution on the cutting edge of advanced technology and dedicated to educating tomorrow’s researchers, health-care providers, and teachers. Led by Dr. Chris Cooper – a clinician-scientist and nationally recognized cardiologist – the college has a long history of developing faculty and producing leaders who serve in major roles at COMLS and in academia and health systems across the nation. Academic Affiliation
In 2015, the COMLS formed an Academic Affiliation with ProMedica – the Toledo region’s largest health system and now one of the largest health systems in the nation with 1800 beds in 11 hospitals across Ohio and southeast Michigan. The Affiliation is a 50-year agreement and represents a $2.5 billion investment in developing a legacy model of healthcare and medical education in Toledo.
The Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics supports the development of excellence and innovation in teaching and training. The Department’s mission is to foster a community of pediatric educators that provides the most efficient and highest quality education to learners, so they may go on to have distinguished careers working to advance the health of infants, children, and adolescents. The 101 faculty members provide coverage across the range of pediatric subspecialties and provide a foundation for further strategic faculty development and recruitment by the new department chair. Outpatient clinics are present on the COMLS campus and Waterville, Ohio.
The Position
The Chair will collaborate with COMLS and ProMedica leadership in the creation and execution of an academic strategic plan by the academic department pertaining to teaching and scholarship. The successful candidate will oversee participation of volunteer faculty in the Department’s academic activities; manage Departmental incentives in the faculty compensation plan; lead academic program development in collaboration with the COMLS and, when appropriate, ProMedica leadership; and ensure that the residency program has appropriate resources to be nationally competitive.
Qualifications
- MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent)
- Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and/or own specialty
- Eligible for an Ohio medical license

Toledo is situated on the banks of the Maumee River and on the shores of Lake Erie in Northwest Ohio. A short drive to beaches, lake-side parks, and ferry access to popular island destinations, Toledo offers both the cultural amenities of a big city and close-knit feel of a small town.
